An intrepid team from the West Coast Partnership is attempting the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge by Rail to raise money for charity.
Avanti West Coast’s Managing Director Phil Whittingham, On Board Customer Service Assistant Lucy Pritchard and West Coast Partnership Development’s Head of Fleet Technical, Martin Ward will be tackling the challenge to raise much needed funds for The Railway Children charity.
Participating alongside other teams, they will attempt to climb the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales.
The trio departed by a train from Crewe Station on Thursday evening (9 September) and travelled to Snowdon, to climb overnight.
They then headed for Ravenglass to climb Scafell Pike, before a night on the train up to Fort William to climb the UK's highest mountain, Ben Nevis.
Speaking about the challenge, Phil Whittingham said: “This is the fourth time I have attempted The Three Peaks challenge and it doesn’t get any easier! But it’s really worth it as we are raising funds for the Railway Children which is a wonderful charity.
“As you can imagine in the circumstances of the last 18 months, last year’s event was cancelled along with many other fundraising opportunities for the Railway Children charity.
“This has left them needing more support and donations than ever to help the thousands of children across the UK, India and East Africa who have run away or who have been forced to leave homes that have become unbearable through poverty, abuse, violence and neglect.
“The West Coast Partnership team with myself, Martin and Lucy have been looking forward to the challenge and are hoping to raise as much as possible in the process for this great cause.”
