Avanti West Coast has released its best fares for travel dates over Christmas and New Year allowing customers to book ahead for their festive break.
All ticket types, including the cheapest advance tickets, are now on sale for travel dates up to 3 January – 12 weeks in advance.
This means families planning a getaway over the Christmas holidays or a trip to the panto and Christmas markets can take advantage of the best value fares, which include the following Standard Class single fares to and from London:
- Birmingham (£16)
- Liverpool (£25)
- Manchester (£36.50)
- Glasgow (£46)
As an added benefit over the festive period, Avanti West Coast has removed peak restrictions from Friday 20 December up to and including Sunday 5 January – giving customers access to better value fares, as well as greater flexibility with their journeys.
Sarah Copley, Executive Director for Commercial at Avanti West Coast, said: “Connecting people and places is what we’re all about and releasing our tickets for Christmas travel dates is great news for our customers who are planning those important journeys over the festive period.
“Whether it’s friends and families wanting to get together at home or enjoy time away during the Christmas holidays, they can do this with our best value fares and the added benefit of more flexibility.”
Avanti West Coast services will finish earlier on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and start later on 27 December and New Year’s Day.
Between 23 December and 4 January, Network Rail will be completing several upgrades on the West Coast Main Line. Customers making journeys during this time are strongly advised to plan ahead and check before they travel. In addition, major rail upgrades taking place over Christmas and New Year affecting journeys into London Paddington and London St Pancras will mean trains to and from London Euston will be extremely busy.
For a more comfortable journey, customers should consider travelling to or from London Euston before Tuesday 24 December or from Thursday 2 January.

About Avanti West Coast
Avanti West Coast, operator of intercity rail services on the West Coast Main Line, is a joint venture between FirstGroup and Trenitalia, delivering a cleaner, greener railway that drives the West Coast forward.
We’re on a mission to revolutionise train travel. Our refurbed Pendolinos returned to the rails in June 2024 following a £117m investment programme that’s delivered the best in class comfort. Known as the UK’s hardest working fleet, all 56 of these iconic trains have been transformed and now boast better seats, improved lighting, new interior carpets, customer-friendly passenger information screens, additional luggage space, power points at every seat and refurbished toilets.
Our new Evero fleet was introduced in June 2024 and will replace our Voyagers. Built by Hitachi, the 23-strong fleet, consisting of 10 seven-carriage electric trains and 13 five-carriage bi-modes, will serve routes from London to the Midlands, Chester, North Wales and the North West, leading to a substantial cut in carbon emissions with an increase in seats, and offering improved comfort. Quieter and roomier, with more reliable Wi-Fi, wireless charging for electrical devices and a real-time customer information system, these new trains are the result of a £350m investment in sustainable travel.
We’re tackling climate change wherever we can, from reducing energy and water use to training drivers in eco-driving techniques and sourcing food and drink from local suppliers. Our goal is to be net zero carbon by 2031. We’re on track.
